Behind the Scenes: Microblading annual touchup

In this video I have already had a consultation, mapped the brows to fit her face, and numbed her. Video starts when I start microblading. This is her annual touchup meaning she’s now maintaining her brows. This year she wanted to add a slightly higher arch and build a longer tail so I did! That’s the beauty of microblading, it can be altered over time.

I’m Kat! I grew up painting, drawing, and running around in the woods of the Appalachian foothills in a small town down south. I graduated college holding a degree with a lengthy title that basically means I can paint and build things, and promptly entered the workforce confused about where to go. Over the years I’ve bounced around looking for the right fit for me, career-wise, but nothing ever checked all the boxes. In 2021, I was burnt out in my social services job, and I asked myself what I would do if I could do anything I wanted to for a living. Cosmetic tattooing kept coming up in my search, and it felt right. I’m a trained artist, I love fine detail work, and I love making people feel confident. Maybe this was my dream job? I sent Taylor Jaye an email asking if she would be interested in taking on an apprentice because I liked her style, and we met for coffee. Neither of us were ready at the time, but we agreed to stay in touch because it felt like a good fit. In the summer of 2022 I reached out again and basically said, “Hey. I’m ready, are you?” And here we are! A few months later I attended the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics in Atlanta for my certification in microblading and I’ve been working with Taylor ever since to learn her realistic, natural-looking techniques. As it turns out, this is my dream job after all. I love it when people tell me they don’t feel like they “need” makeup anymore. My background is in cosmetology and art, specializing in portrait drawing. I always loved life drawing and expressing what I visualized in front of me on paper, especially portrait sketches.
